Description

“May I venture a question, dear sir?”
“You may but I may not answer.”
“You do not seem to be from Korse. If I may ask, who are you?”
In that moonlight accompanied by the soft music, his replying smile nearly melted her heart.
“Why, the mask is to obscure the identity of one, is it not?”
That was his charm. Jean sincerely wanted to see the face behind the mask of the man who cajoled her into dancing with him.
“Now, my lady, let us not burden ourselves with the issue of identities, shall we?” Jean reluctantly nodded.

Lovely satin texture. The trees are excellent. The moon looks a little 'placed' to my mind rather than an integral part of the image. (Especially as the primary light source.) Well done.

I like it a lot, except the ground, it disturbs the painting. Everything else is very well done. I like the lace. The mask of the lady is very cool, too. Good job.

Nice concept :) Not sure about the woman's arm though :)

I'm afraid you're "compartmentalizing" the color too much, and giving the ambient light too little thought. Some parts are actually showing a bit of thought on colors, like the dress, but many are just monochromatic, uniform spots, an especially bad idea when you're doing that to skin tone. The moon and the man's hair are outright gray.

You have a night background, but the figures are lit with flat white, with absolutely no blue ambience from the sky. The moon is there, but there is no back light from it on the figures and trees likewise. The lighting on the figures seems to come from several sources, too, - both faces are lit flat-on, but the shadows on the woman's dress suggest that she's lit from the back. In fact, the figures and the background are completely unrelated.

A painting must work as an integral whole; unless you figure out the internally consistent color scheme and lighting, it will be a pile of unrelated parts.

Keep working!

Well not much to say critically after the others.. I do like the concept, and the sky is pretty good. The man's hands are impressive..( i don't draw so take it for what it's worth) the satin textures look very realistic..

look forward to the next one :)

I think Arenhaus it it right about the ambient lighting...

My only crit is that I would think they would be looking in each other's eyes while dancing....

The dress textures are great, and I think that the foliage of the trees was handled very well +8

Nice painting!

Though I think your description would have made a better impact if those two would have looked into each others eyes.

Very nice work WP. Great lighting technique. She looks a bit stiff though and to me her expression is a bit too serious. I must agree about the white below. I also find it distracting. Overall a wonderful portrait with excellent technique.

Good work!

beautifully rendered cloth work... I like the idea... it looks like she is somewhere else and he is totally in love with her.
I agree with arenhaus about the lighting though. The figures look like they are in front of a back drop, not really in the woods.
Maybe that is your intent.
Your off to a great start and I hope all the comments help you grow and create something exquisite!
